Save us, Lord, while we are awake,

guard us while we are asleep;

that, awake, we may watch with Christ,

and, asleep, may rest in his peace.

dissertation update

As of today, I have consulted exactly 500 sources for my dissertation.

Aren't you jealous?

I'm more than halfway through at this point, I think.

Yeah!

Guest speaker: Guess what--I'm a missionary! Do you think I look like a missionary?

Girls: Yes!

Guest speaker: Oh, really? Why?

Girl: Because you're wearing glasses that make you look smart, just like my glasses make me look smart!

If you want to know about Baptist history (you probably don't), read pretty much anything by this guy. My dissertation touches on the idea he mentions here.

We visited Wycliffe's headquarters and WordSpring Discovery Center. The museum was really impressive.
Did you know that fewer than 6 percent of the world's languages have a complete, printed Bible?
There are over 500 English Bible translations, though. This is the Wycliffe job that has always interested me most.
The goal is for everyone to be able to read the Bible in their heart language.

We stopped by (supposedly) the world's largest McDonald's.
jumbo TV screens at the counter
"gourmet" food (?)
Bill Cosby...
a humongous play area with no food and drinks allowed

We didn't make it here, though. Looks like it would have been quite the experience...

We sang this song today.

While I'm not into politics and fighting, I'm also not into bad theology...hmmm....

Leader: This missionary works with a ministry called Embrace Baltimore. Does anyone know what embrace means?

GA: I know! It's when you get braces on your teeth.

You know it's going to be a long trip when you get behind a car whose back windshield says:

Save gas

Go 55 MAX

Girl: My teacher has been really nice to us ever since she told us she was pregnant by Hangman.

Leader: What??

Girl: You know! It's a game--hangman! My teacher told us she was pregnant, and then we played hangman!

Leader: This missionary lives in Baltimore. Baltimore has lots of historic buildings. Are there any historic buildings in your town?

Girl 1: My house! It was built in about 1772!

Girl 2: I know! The Boy Scouts building!
