Pure cold water,
That’s the drink for me,
For I’m a young abstainer
From drinking customs free.

24% of the bottled water Americans buy is repackaged tap water created by Coke and Pepsi.

You probably know I've been reading lots of old magazines lately for my dissertation research. I thought I'd share some of the more interesting things I've found here.

So here's the first installment--catchy songs to help you remember your spiritual duty:

There’s a call comes ringing through your heart and mine,
Pay the tithe! Pay the tithe!
Tis a call of duty from a voice divine,
Pay the tithe! Pay the tithe!

Pay the tithe, the blessed Gospel tithe,
It will shine on every shore,
Pay the tithe, the blessed Gospel tithe,
It will bless you ever more.
(etc)

What a wonderful change in the world will be wrought,
When Baptists all learn how to tithe,
We will then reach a goal for which long we have sought,
When Baptists all learn how to tithe.

When Baptists all learn how to tithe,
When Baptists all learn how to tithe,
Oh, the dollars will roll, bringing joy to each soul,
When Baptists all learn how to tithe.

Not a soul will be left to its darkness and woe
When Baptists all learn how to tithe,
But of God and His love every creature shall know,
When Baptists all learn how to tithe.
(etc)

More people between the ages of 12 and 44 cite the internet--rather than TV, radio, or newspapers--as the most essential medium in their lives.

11:30 PM Sunday: arrive home from Ghana

11:30 AM Monday: flight leaves for Kansas City

Everything has worked out so far. So I'm sitting in my new home, the airport, enjoying the free high-speed internet and my new "elite" frequent flyer status. See you later!

Happy 4th of July

While you're staring into the sky wondering why there are no fireworks, think of me tasting Brazilian chocolate, singing Zambian songs, eating Ghanaian food, learning about New Zealand's culture, and about a million other things. :)

Don't forget to eat some watermelon for me.

an update for my adoring fans

Everything here is great so far. Today, among other things, we heard from key speakers on these topics:
  • characteristics of a global Christian leader
  • critical concerns for global Baptists
  • vision and values of the BWA

Some of this may sound boring, but it wasn't. For most of the rest of the week, we'll be attending the programs of the broader gathering.

More updates when I'm not too tired and can get the internet to work. :)

For the first rotation, we did arts and crafts.
For the second, we did footwashing.
And for the third, we taught them how to make onion rings.
